Athletics Break Ground on $1.75 Billion, 33,000-Seat Las Vegas Ballpark with MLB, Nevada Officials Amid Funding Uncertainties

The Oakland Athletics officially broke ground on their new $1.75 billion baseball stadium on June 23, 2025, located on the Las Vegas Strip at the former Tropicana Hotel site. The 33,000-seat domed ballpark is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2028 Major League Baseball season opener. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key figures including Athletics owner John Fisher, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, Clark County officials, and other local dignitaries. Fisher emphasized the ongoing investor process and capital raising efforts, while Manfred expressed confidence in attending the stadium's opening day in 2028 and praised the partnership with Nevada officials.

Despite the ceremonial milestone, some funding uncertainties remain, and plans for an adjacent Bally’s casino-resort have not been clarified. The Athletics concluded their final season in Oakland in September 2024 and have been playing home games in Sacramento during the transition. The project marks a major step in establishing the Athletics as Las Vegas's MLB team and reflects a multi-year construction timeline expected to span about two and a half years.
