Ukraine Proposes 30-Kilometer Buffer Zone; U.S. Envoy Kellogg Says Putin Blocks Ceasefire, Trump Could Enforce It

Ukraine has proposed a freeze of the ongoing conflict along the current lines of contact, accompanied by the establishment of a 30-kilometer demilitarized buffer zone, with 15 kilometers of troop withdrawal on each side. This proposal was communicated by Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, the U.S.

special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, who also stated that former President Donald Trump could enforce a ceasefire if Russia consents. Kellogg identified Russian President Vladimir Putin as the primary obstacle to achieving a ceasefire, emphasizing that progress depends on Putin's agreement. The Ukrainian side has expressed readiness to immediately conclude a ceasefire and implement the buffer zone. The proposed ceasefire would be comprehensive, covering sea, air, land, and infrastructure, initially for a minimum of 30 days with the possibility of extension. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Yuri Ushakov noted that territorial issues are actively discussed with the United States, with Americans understanding Russia's position and how to achieve a long-term settlement. The U.S. has accused Putin of being the main impediment to ending the war, warning that Russia stands to suffer the most if the conflict continues.
