In response to the escalating security crisis in Haiti, characterized by unpredictable and dangerous unrest, the U.S. government has taken significant measures to protect its embassy staff and support the Caribbean nation. The U.S. Southern Command, at the request of the Department of State, conducted an operation to augment the security of the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, involving the deployment of Marines and enabling the middle-of-night evacuation of non-essential personnel. Additionally, the U.S. has announced a substantial financial commitment to Haiti, including an additional $100 million for a Kenya-led multinational security support mission and $33 million in humanitarian aid. Secretary of State Blinken highlighted the urgent need for a peaceful political transition in Haiti, supported by a clear plan led by trusted Haitian representatives. Blinken is also set to meet with CARICOM leaders in Jamaica to address the crisis further. The international community, including the EU and Germany, has begun evacuating staff from their embassies in gang-plagued Haiti due to the violence.
