German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius made an unannounced visit to Ukraine, meeting with the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Rustem Umerov, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The purpose of the visit is to confirm Berlin's support for Ukraine and to personally assess the current situation and the effectiveness of Germany's support. Pistorius announced a new aid package for Ukraine, including 4 IRIS-T systems, 20 thousand 155-mm caliber shells, anti-tank mines, and other weapons. Additionally, Germany will send more than $1 billion in weapons to Ukraine, and a new aid package amounting to 1.3 billion euros has been announced. Germany is expected to expand aid to Ukraine next year, and the new package will not include long-range Taurus missiles.
