An ex-Austrian security officer, identified as Egisto Ott, has been arrested for allegedly spying on behalf of Russia, facilitated by Jan Marsalek and the FSB. The arrest followed the revelation that Ott sold confidential data from the smartphones of three top Austrian government officials to the FSB, which were stolen while being repaired for water damage. This incident has prompted Austria's Chancellor Karl Nehammer to convene the national security council, citing threats to the country from Russian spy networks. The networks are accused of infiltrating or exploiting political parties or associations. The information leading to Ott's arrest came after a British tip-off, and further investigations revealed that in November 2022, an encrypted laptop was delivered to the FSB in Moscow, a delivery allegedly organized by Marsalek with assistance from Berlin.
