Blinken Pledges $185 Million to Moldova Amid Russian Aggression, NATO Partnership Intensifies
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Moldova to support its aspirations to join Western institutions and strengthen its democracy amidst Russian aggression. During his visit, Blinken announced a $135 million pledge to counter Russian influence and an additional $50 million for professional reporters addressing malign Russian influence. The U.S. also expressed concern over Chișinău's reelection of a Moscow-friendly mayor who opposes the pro-NATO president. Additionally, Moldova's government revoked the licenses of six opposition TV channels, and NATO has intensified its partnership with Moldova. In a show of solidarity, Moldova adopted a declaration condemning the forced displacement and deportation of Ukrainian children by Russia.
