Hundreds of Western companies have remained in Russia despite initial plans to exit following the invasion of Ukraine, according to a report by the Financial Times on May 28. As of last month, 2,175 foreign companies continue operations in Russia, compared to 1,610 that have left or reduced their activities, based on data from the Kyiv School of Economics. Notable companies that have stayed include Unilever, Avon Products, Reckitt, Procter & Gamble, and Colgate-Palmolive. Reckitt's brands such as Calgon, Durex, Nurofen, Strepsils, and Vanish are among those still available in Russia. These firms have cited various reasons for their continued presence, including bureaucratic obstacles and rebounding consumer activity. The Financial Times highlights that only 387 companies have fully exited the Russian market since 2022.
