José Aldo, known as the 'King of Rio,' announced his retirement from professional MMA following his fight at UFC 315 in Montreal. At 38 years old, Aldo concluded a storied career with a record of 32 wins and 10 losses, having dominated the featherweight division and holding titles in both the WEC and UFC. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2023.
Leading up to his final fight, Aldo faced significant health challenges, including an arm strain and a bout of illness, which nearly prevented him from competing. Despite these adversities, he chose to fight against Aiemann Zahabi, aware that it might be his last opportunity in the sport.
In his retirement bout, Aldo showcased his signature leg kicks and managed to drop Zahabi. However, Zahabi won by a controversial unanimous decision. Following the fight, Aldo officially retired inside the Octagon.
Conor McGregor, a former rival, expressed admiration for Aldo's performance and retirement, acknowledging his status as one of the greatest featherweights of all time.
