Under Texas Senate Bill 1, vote harvesting in exchange for compensation is a third-degree felony, carrying penalties of up to 10 years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine per count.
The charges stem from alleged collection and submission of absentee ballots during election campaigns. Frio County has a population of about 18,000. Authorities stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
