Sabalenka Edges Raducanu in Marathon Tie-Break to Reach Wimbledon Last 16

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka fought past Britain’s Emma Raducanu 7-6 (8/6), 6-4 in a tense two-hour third-round contest on Wimbledon’s Centre Court. The 75-minute opening set swung back and forth as Raducanu saved seven set points before Sabalenka finally converted on her eighth chance in the tie-break after fending off one set point herself.

Raducanu, buoyed by the home crowd, surged 4-1 ahead in the second set, but Sabalenka reeled off five consecutive games to seal victory and extend her streak of reaching the last 16 at every Grand Slam she has played since 2023. Sabalenka praised her opponent’s performance, predicting Raducanu “will be back in the top 10 soon.” The 22-year-old Briton, still rebuilding after multiple surgeries in 2023, is set to surrender the national No. 1 spot to Katie Boulter but departs Wimbledon having pushed the tournament’s top seed to the limit.
