Djokovic Sets Third-Round Record With 99th Wimbledon Win

Novak Djokovic advanced to the Wimbledon third round for a record 19th time, surpassing Roger Federer’s mark for the most men’s appearances at that stage in the Open Era. The 38-year-old Serbian defeated Britain’s Dan Evans 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 on Centre Court, registering his 99th career match win at the All England Club.

Djokovic converted five of six break points after an initially slow start and did not face a break point until the final game. The seven-time Wimbledon champion now sits one victory shy of becoming only the third player to reach 100 wins at the tournament, after Federer and Serena Williams.

Speaking courtside, Djokovic said serious reflection on his achievements would wait until he has “set the racket aside” and can “sip margaritas on the beach with Federer and Nadal,” nodding to his long-time rivals. For now, he remains focused on extending his record 24 Grand Slam titles as the championships progress.
