Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz claimed his second Queen’s Club title on 22 June, defeating Czech underdog Jiri Lehecka 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-2. The victory delivered the 22-year-old world No. 2 his 21st career trophy, fifth of the season and third in succession after Rome and Roland Garros, while stretching his unbeaten run to 18 matches and confirming his readiness for Wimbledon.
The defending Wimbledon champion has since navigated three contrasting rounds at the All England Club. He survived a 4-hour-37-minute opener against Italy’s Fabio Fognini, prevailing 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 on the tournament’s hottest recorded opening day. A straight-sets win over British qualifier Oliver Tarvet (6-1, 6-4, 6-4) steadied his campaign, and on 4 July he eliminated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Those results extend Alcaraz’s streak to 21 matches—17 of them at Wimbledon—and give him a tour-leading 45 victories this year. He meets Russia’s Andrey Rublev in Sunday’s fourth round as he pursues a third consecutive Wimbledon crown, a feat achieved in the Open Era only by Björn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
