Robots Mimic Honeybee Behavior in Science Robotics Study to Build Structures and Make Collective Decisions, Hunt Spotted Lanternfly Eggs, and Scale Drone and Robotic Fleet Operations

Researchers have developed robots that mimic the behavior of honeybees to build structures and make decisions collectively. These robots work together in a swarm, similar to how bees vote for new hive locations by dancing. The study featured in Science Robotics used a device integrated into a beehive to observe honeybee colony behavior and influence its spatiotemporal organization. Additionally, a robot has been designed to hunt down and dispose of Spotted Lanternfly eggs. Enterprise users are scaling up their drone and robotic fleet operations, relying on different types of uncrewed vehicles for diverse tasks.
