Scientists have discovered a new species of mosasaur, a carnivorous aquatic lizard that lived during the late Cretaceous period. The fossil was found near the small North Dakota city of Walhalla and is named after a sea serpent in Norse mythology. The newfound mosasaur is described as being like a giant Komodo dragon with flippers. In addition, researchers have also revealed a new species of armored reptile that lived before the dinosaurs. Furthermore, a study reports the discovery of two unusually large fossil lamprey species that are more than ten times longer than the earliest lampreys. These lampreys were flesh eaters, not bloodsuckers.
