Pakistani state media outlets, citing military sources, said early on 10 May that the country had launched a large-scale cyber operation dubbed “Bunyan-ul-Marsoos” against India. The reports claimed the attack had shut down about 70 percent of India’s electricity grid and compromised 10 supervisory control and data-acquisition (SCADA) systems along with 1,744 web servers. Indian authorities swiftly rejected the allegations. State broadcaster Doordarshan News, the Press Information Bureau’s fact-checking unit and AIR News all described the social-media posts as false and urged the public not to circulate panic-inducing content. Journalists in New Delhi likewise reported no evidence of widespread outages or disrupted critical infrastructure. The conflicting assertions could not be independently verified. As of 02:00 IST, power supply appeared normal across major Indian cities, and officials said systems were being monitored for any cyber threats. The episode highlights how disinformation and cyber claims have become tools in the long-running rivalry between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
