Starting today, Google began removing certain apps from its Play Store in India, just hours after announcing it would take action against companies not complying with its billing policies. The Android versions of Shaadi, Altt, and Quack Quack were among the first to disappear. Info Edge confirmed its compliance with Play Store policies early this month, with no pending invoices. IAMAI, which counts Google as a member, "advises" against the delisting, affecting at least four members. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, stating "India is very clear, our policy is very clear...our start-ups will get the protection that they need," expressed the government's strong view against the delisting and is hopeful for a reasonable approach from Google over the fee dispute. A meeting with Google and the developers of the delisted apps is scheduled next week to resolve the issue.
