Planting trees alone is not the solution to climate change, according to Bill Gates. He argues that halting the use of fossil fuels is necessary to address the issue. However, managing and protecting forests is important for their role in sequestering carbon from the atmosphere. Tree plantations, which attempt to offset carbon pollution, are criticized for their limitations. It is pointed out that forests have a net warming effect, as stated by the IPCC. Despite this, there are calls to continue planting trees as a way to combat climate change. It is acknowledged that there is not enough land on Earth to rely solely on tree planting for this purpose.
