Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat embarked on a two-day official visit to Damascus, Syria, beginning April 16, 2025, marking the highest-profile visit by a Turkish economic official since the ouster of Bashar Assad. The visit aims to discuss and enhance bilateral cooperation on trade, transport, investment, energy, and reconstruction efforts in Syria. Bolat's delegation includes representatives from various Turkish ministries such as transport, economic institutions, civil society, chambers of commerce and industry, and the contractors' union. The discussions focused on building a new, stable Syria through cooperation in industry, trade, and energy.
