On March 14, 2025, Indonesia Demolishes 60 Illegal Buildings in Sentul, Bogor, and Resumes Forestry Carbon Trading

The Indonesian government is taking significant steps to address environmental issues, including the demolition of illegal buildings along the Kali Sepak river in Bekasi, West Java, led by Governor Dedi Mulyadi and Bekasi Regent. On March 14, 2025, they commenced the dismantling of 60 illegal structures in the villages of Srimukti and Srijaya. Additionally, the government has sealed off several hotels, resorts, golf courses, and luxury housing in Sentul, Bogor, due to severe violations of environmental regulations. Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni announced plans to resume carbon trading from the forestry sector, which had been on hold for three years, as a means to bolster carbon offset markets. Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq is also addressing air pollution issues in Indonesia, highlighting ongoing efforts to manage waste and improve air quality, particularly in the capital, where particle levels exceed recommended limits. The government is working on regulations aimed at municipalities to enhance waste management and educate the public on proper waste handling.
