T-Mobile is set to launch its satellite texting service, T-Satellite, powered by SpaceX's Starlink, across the United States on July 23, 2025. The service will cover approximately 500,000 square miles, including remote areas lacking traditional cellular coverage, and will support texting for both Android and iOS devices. Initially, the service will provide basic texting capabilities, with data services expected to roll out in October 2025, enabling third-party apps such as WhatsApp, X, and AccuWeather to function in dead zones. More than 1.8 million customers have already registered for the T-Satellite network.
The service is available not only to T-Mobile users but also to customers of other carriers for a monthly fee of $10. In response to severe flooding in Texas, SpaceX has deployed Starlink Mini kits to all first responder vehicles in Kerr County and enabled basic texting via satellite for T-Mobile customers in multiple flood-affected counties, including Kerr, Kendall, Llano, Travis, and Comal. This deployment has restored critical communications for emergency teams where traditional radios and cell networks failed. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has increased its testing of Starlink connections to enhance air traffic control systems, now testing 41 connections across New Jersey, Alaska, and Oklahoma, up from eight earlier in the year.
