Smoking is now barred on beaches during the bathing season, in public parks and gardens, at bus shelters and within roughly 10 metres of schools, libraries, swimming pools and sports venues. Offenders face a standard fine of €135 that can rise to €700. The ban does not extend to café and restaurant terraces or to e-cigarettes.
