The 9th China-South Asia Expo commenced on June 19 in Kunming, the capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, and is scheduled to run through June 24. The event has attracted representatives from 73 countries, regions, and international organizations, as well as over 2,500 enterprises, covering all South and Southeast Asian nations. Featuring 16 exhibition halls, the expo highlights sectors such as manufacturing, green energy, digital economy, artificial intelligence, the coffee industry, and traditional culture. It serves as a key platform to enhance economic and trade cooperation between China and South Asian countries, fostering regional connectivity and mutual understanding.
According to data from China's Ministry of Commerce, trade between China and South Asian countries reached nearly $2 trillion in 2024, doubling over the past decade with an average annual growth rate of approximately 6.3%. As of June 23, the expo had facilitated the signing of 150 trade contracts worth 8.3 billion yuan ($1.16 billion), including 91 agreements with Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) member countries valued at 1.39 billion yuan. Experts and officials have underscored the expo's role in promoting regional cooperation, economic growth, and cultural exchange, with a focus on providing foreign enterprises greater access to the South Asian market and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.
