Disney is accelerating its theme park investment cycle, with the Piston Peak National Park project at Magic Kingdom marking its largest expansion to date. The closure of Tom Sawyer Island and related attractions, along with operational changes to the Railroad, signals a focus on high-impact, IP-driven experiences to sustain park attendance and differentiate from competitors.
The Jefferies upgrade, citing resilient parks demand, cruise revenue growth, and improving streaming margins, underpins recent share outperformance (DIS +10% YTD vs. Dow +4%). The $144 price target implies further upside if execution continues on track, especially as new content and streaming launches approach.
Operationally, recent incidents—a successful overboard rescue on Disney Dream and a medical emergency at the park—were managed without disruption or policy changes. Traders should monitor for any regulatory actions, especially as summer travel volumes peak.
Legal and reputational risks remain in focus. The Florida AG’s investigation into unauthorized filming and renewed scrutiny of forced labor in supply chains could create headline risk, though no direct operational impact has emerged.
Key watchpoints: progress on the Piston Peak build, cruise and park attendance trends, streaming subscriber updates, and any regulatory developments related to labor or guest safety. Execution on these fronts will be critical for sustaining momentum into year-end.

20th Century Studios has commissioned a new installment of the “Night at the Museum” franchise, hiring screenwriter Tripper Clancy – whose credits include the “Die Hart” films and “Stuber” – to draft a reimagining of the family comedy series. The project will be produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine through their 21 Laps Entertainment banner, with 21 Laps executive Emily Morris overseeing development for the company.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say the film will unfold at the museum with an entirely new cast of characters rather than revisiting Ben Stiller’s original protagonist. A director and release timetable have not yet been announced.
The reboot revives a property that has generated more than $1.3 billion from three live-action releases in 2006, 2009 and 2014, plus the 2022 animated feature “Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again.” The move follows Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, now 20th Century Studios, as the studio looks to extend one of its most lucrative family franchises.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Nashville on 12 July with a 12-bout card at Bridgestone Arena, headlined by a heavyweight meeting between veteran knockout leader Derrick Lewis and fast-rising Brazilian Tallison “Xicão” Teixeira. Lewis, 40, holds a UFC-record 15 knockouts and is coming off a stoppage win over Rodrigo Nascimento. Teixeira, 25, has finished all eight of his professional opponents in under five minutes, most recently flattening Justin Tafa in 35 seconds in his promotional debut.

Wednesday marks 15 years since LeBron James stunned the NBA by announcing on live television that he would “take [his] talents to South Beach” and sign with the Miami Heat. The hour-long ESPN special, aired on 8 July 2010 and later dubbed “The Decision,” drew nearly 10 million viewers and generated about $2 million for the Boys & Girls Club of America.
The spectacle reshaped player movement in U.S. sports, accelerating the trend toward superstar empowerment and short-term contracts that give athletes greater leverage over their careers. James’ move also sparked an immediate backlash—particularly in his native Ohio, where Cleveland Cavaliers fans burned jerseys—and cast the Heat’s newly formed trio of James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh as league villains until Miami captured back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.

ABC has ordered a 30th season of “The Bachelor,” securing the long-running dating franchise through the 2025-26 broadcast cycle. The pickup cements the show’s status as one of network television’s most durable unscripted titles, debuting in 2002 and spawning numerous spin-offs and international editions.
Alongside the renewal, the network elevated Scott Teti to showrunner. Teti currently steers “Bachelor in Paradise” and is credited with refreshing that summer series by adding new compatibility challenges and relocating production to Costa Rica for its 10th season. He takes over the flagship from veteran executive producers Bennett Graebner and Claire Freeland, who remain with the franchise as executive producers.
ABC’s decision comes as competition in the reality-dating space intensifies, with Peacock’s “Love Island USA” posting record streaming engagement this summer. By giving the mothership series a creative overhaul ahead of its milestone year, the network aims to keep the brand competitive while expanding its cross-platform footprint on Hulu and Disney’s other streaming outlets.

Chicago Cubs fans roundly booed podcaster Alex Cooper during the seventh-inning stretch at Wrigley Field on Sunday, 6 July. Cooper, 30, led “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” with two companions, delivering an exaggerated, off-key performance that drew audible jeers from much of the 40,319-strong crowd almost from the first note. Video of the moment spread quickly online.
The Cubs—already leading the St. Louis Cardinals 11-0 in a nationally televised game—had marketed the evening as “Big Al’s Takeover.” While the lopsided score left little suspense on the field, the reaction to Cooper’s rendition became the dominant storyline. The club offered no immediate comment on Monday.

ABC’s summer dating franchise “Bachelor in Paradise” returns to the schedule tonight after a two-year break, launching its 10th season at 8 p.m. Eastern. The series resumes with a fresh backdrop, relocating production from its long-time base in Sayulita, Mexico, to a beach resort in Costa Rica.
In a first for the format, the cast mixes 20 recent alumni of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” with ten older contestants drawn from the network’s “Golden Bachelor” and “Golden Bachelorette” spinoffs. Producers hope the inter-generational roster broadens the show’s appeal and introduces new story lines.
Jesse Palmer returns as host alongside resident bartender Wells Adams. Former Bachelorette Hannah Brown will oversee a newly created “Champagne Lounge” segment. New episodes air Mondays on ABC, with a one-off Tuesday episode on July 15; each installment streams the following day on Hulu. Cord-cutters can watch live via Fubo, DirecTV, Hulu + Live TV or Sling.

The main card, which airs on ESPN and ESPN+ at 9 p.m. Eastern (prelims begin at 6 p.m.), also features a welterweight co-main event matching former title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson against Brazilian prospect Gabriel Bonfim. Additional televised bouts pit Steve Garcia against Calvin Kattar at featherweight, hometown favourite Nate Landwehr against France’s Morgan Charriere, and heavyweight contests Vitor Petrino-Austen Lane and Junior Tafa-Tuco Tokkos.
Saturday’s show marks the UFC’s sixth trip to Music City and opens a seven-week stretch that will take the promotion to New Orleans, Abu Dhabi, Las Vegas, Chicago and Shanghai. Tickets remain on sale through the arena box office and UFC’s digital platforms.
