Amazon founder Jeff Bezos married broadcast journalist and helicopter pilot Lauren Sánchez in Venice on 27 June, capping a six-year relationship that began publicly in 2019 and led to an engagement announced last year. The three-day celebration, which ran through 29 June, was reported to cost between $20 million and $34 million and drew roughly 200 guests, among them Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady and Ivanka Trump.
Local activist group “No Space for Bezos” staged demonstrations against the lavish festivities and the billionaire’s presence in the overcrowded lagoon city, unfurling banners that read “No space for Bezos.” City officials said the main ceremony was moved from the historic Scuola Grande della Misericordia to the more secluded Arsenal of Venice after protesters threatened disruptions.
Sánchez, 55, is a former Emmy-winning television anchor who founded the aerial film company Black Ops Aviation in 2016 and flew on a Blue Origin sub-orbital mission in April. Following the wedding, the newlyweds were seen in Paris during Haute Couture Week, where Sánchez hosted a dinner and appeared in a waist-cinching red Versace dress, signalling the start of an extended post-nuptial tour.
