Indian Engineer Soham Parekh Accused of Moonlighting at YC-Backed Startups

A group of US technology founders says Indian software developer Soham Parekh secretly held three to five full-time engineering roles at once, deceiving employers about his workload and qualifications. The accusations were led by Suhail Doshi, co-founder of Mixpanel and head of Playground AI, who disclosed that he dismissed Parekh within a week of hiring him in 2023 after discovering overlapping commitments.

Following Doshi’s post, at least four other founders—including Flo Crivello of Lindy, Nicolai Ouporov of Fleet AI and Matthew Parkhurst of Antimetal—reported similar experiences, bringing the number of known affected startups to at least five. Several of the firms are backed by the Y Combinator accelerator. Employers say Parekh excelled in interviews but soon missed meetings and fell behind on work as the scale of his simultaneous jobs became apparent. Doshi also published a résumé he described as “90% fake,” listing positions at companies such as Dynamo AI and Synthesia.

The episode has intensified scrutiny of remote-work hiring practices and rekindled debate over ‘moonlighting’—holding multiple jobs without disclosure. Founders say the case exposes gaps in background checks and raises concerns about potential leaks of proprietary information when engineers work for competing startups. Parekh has not issued a public statement.
