Zverev Considers Therapy After Wimbledon Five-Set Loss to Rinderknech

World No. 3 Alexander Zverev was eliminated in the Wimbledon first round, falling to France’s Arthur Rinderknech 7-6(3) 6-7(8) 6-3 6-7(5) 6-4 in a match that resumed after an overnight suspension on Centre Court.

The defeat is the German’s earliest exit at a major since 2019 and leaves him still without a Grand-Slam title after 38 attempts. His loss contributed to a turbulent opening round in which 13 of the 32 seeded men failed to advance.

In a subdued news conference, the 28-year-old said he has been struggling mentally since January’s Australian Open final, admitting he feels “very alone” and for the first time is considering therapy. “I’ve never felt this empty before,” Zverev told reporters.

Zverev said he will take a four-week break from competition and hopes to return at the Toronto Masters in late July. Rinderknech moves on to face Chilean lucky loser Cristian Garin in the second round.
