St. Thomas, a team recently transitioned from DIII, played a close game against No. 7 Marquette, trailing by one point with around three minutes left. Marquette led by only two points with one minute remaining. St. John’s dominated Fordham, leading comfortably throughout the game, with a 16-point lead at one point and ultimately winning 53-37.
Fordham is still down 16 at the U12, but Urgo has something here with Tsimbila and Josh Rivera playing alongside one another up front. They’ve combined for 20 and 10, and have been the brightest spots for the Rams on a day that’s gone largely the other way. St. John’s up 53-37.
Before today, I can’t remember ever hearing a let’s go Fordham chant this loud in this building. Credit the Ram fans for making their presence known in a pro-St. John’s crowd. Hopefully the Rams can match the effort over the next 20. At halftime: Johnnies 39, Rams 28.
This one is already going off the rails, and there’s still 9:15 left in the first half. St. John’s is up 28-10, and Urgo will talk. #sjubb
St. John’s is up 10 with 11:26 remaining in the opening stanza, comfortably ahead by an 18-8 count on a Fordham team that has missed eight of its first ten shots. Drissa Traore has given the Johnnies a lift in this last segment, draining a three and taking a charge. #sjubb
This one is all St. John’s through the first 4:25, as the Red Storm has staked itself out to an 11-2 lead on the strength of a size and shooting advantage over a smaller Fordham unit. The 11,000-plus in the crowd are predominantly red too, with some maroon sprinkled in. #sjubb
Off and running on 33rd and 8th, with Fordham wearing its black alternates and Ram alum Mike Walczewski on the PA this afternoon. After coming up empty on its first shot, St. John’s gets the first points on a right elbow jumper from DJ. Tsimbila already flustered down low. #sjubb https://t.co/u2bfbMkjkr
Marquette only up 2 on St. Thomas (who?) with 1min to go.
Wow. Was one-point game #Tommies vs. Marquette with around three minutes left
TOMMIES HAVE CUT IT DOWN TO ONE! GET TO FS1! THESE WERE DIII PLAYERS JUST A FEW SEASONS AGO. THEY’RE BATTLING THE #7 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. 73-72 MARQUETTE WITH 3:19 TO GO.
TOMMIES HAVE IT DOWN TO A TWO POSSESSION GAME! We might have a flagrant coming here too. Tommies are battling the #7 team in the country. 73-67 Marquette with 3:49 to go on FS1.
St. Thomas leading No. 7 Marquette 14-13 with 11 1/2 minutes left in the first half after Carter Bjerke three-pointer. Give @JohnnyTauer credit for scheduling this level of an opponent not far removed from DIII. @TommieMBBall
