German veteran Laura Siegemund produced the biggest upset of the women’s draw at Wimbledon on Friday, eliminating No. 6 seed and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-3, 6-3 in the third round.

The 37-year-old, contesting her ninth Championships, becomes the oldest woman in the Open Era to reach the Wimbledon Round of 16 for the first time. The victory is also her second over a top-10 opponent this season after entering 2025 with an 0-7 record against that tier at the majors.

Siegemund dictated play from the baseline and capitalised on a misfiring Keys serve; the American captured just one of 19 points behind her second delivery and failed to convert three match points she held while trailing 5-3 in the second set.

The German moves into the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2020 US Open and will look to extend a resurgent campaign when play resumes at the All England Club.
