Salah Mourns Jota After Fatal Crash, Fears Liverpool Return

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, 28, and his younger brother André Silva were killed when their car left a motorway in Spain and burst into flames in the early hours of 3 July, according to local authorities. A wake is being held in Portugal on Friday, with the funeral scheduled for Saturday in the brothers’ hometown of Gondomar.

Teammate Mohamed Salah said the tragedy has left him “truly lost for words” and “frightened” to return to Liverpool after the international break. “Teammates come and go, but not like this,” the Egypt captain wrote on Instagram, adding that his thoughts were with Jota’s wife, children and parents. Liverpool have postponed the squad’s planned pre-season fitness testing until 7 July and lowered flags at Anfield, while supporters continue to lay tributes outside the stadium.
