Princeton dominated the second half, outscoring Monmouth by 30 points, and won 82-57. Caden Pierce led Princeton with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Tigers are now 4-0 after four road wins. Princeton is going to get Top 25 votes in Monday’s AP poll. Tigers are legit.
Princeton picks up where it left off last season. The Tigers, who beat Arizona and Missouri to go to the Sweet 16, are now 4-0 after four road wins to start the season. Caden Pierce with another double-double today, this time going for 20 and 10 in the win over Monmouth.
That turned into a Princeton runaway over the final 20 minutes. The Tigers outscored Monmouth by 30 over the final 29 minutes-plus of game action, rolling to an 82-57 victory. Now 4-0 and only gaining steam.
Princeton doesn't even have to get out of second gear for an impressive win at Monmouth to go to 4-0. Matt Allocco now 8-12 from behind the arc this season. Road show to start the season ends Wednesday at Old Dominion.
Princeton is 3:42 away from starting 4-0 this year, with Monmouth about to be added to a list that already includes Rutgers, Hofstra and Duquesne. Pierce’s 20 and 10 leads a quartet of double-figure scorers as the Tigers go down the stretch with a 70-52 lead.
Princeton has held serve in the second half, maintaining an 11-point lead at the U8. It’s the Tigers 61, Monmouth 50, with 7:09 to go. #FlyHawks
Caden Pierce, who went off last week at Hofstra, is doing the same thing here today against Monmouth, with 16 points and nine rebounds at the U16. The Hawks are starting to fight back, but still trail by 13 with 15:57 to play, 46-33 the score. #FlyHawks
Princeton’s run, spanning the end of the first half, has reached 26-6, and a little more than two minutes removed from the intermission, King Rice will say a few words here. Getting late early for Monmouth, who now trails by 15, 43-28, with 17:54 to go. #FlyHawks
THIS JUST IN: Princeton is, as the kids say, legit. The Tigers closed the first half with a 21-5 run over the last 9:20, with Xaivian Lee and Caden Pierce dominating the Hawks and making it impossible to get a good look offensively. After 20, Monmouth trails 38-27. #FlyHawks
Xander Rice stopped the bleeding with a floater in the lane that ended a 9-0 Princeton run. The Tigers, now into something resembling a groove on offense, have a 28-24 lead with 3:48 to play before the intermission. That’s a nice football score, right @JerryBeach73? #FlyHawks
Eight of the nine @MonmouthBBall players to see the floor so far have scored. More importantly and perhaps more impressively, seven of them have an assist so far. The ball movement, if you’re a basketball purist, is a joy to watch. Hawks 22, Princeton 20, 7:50 before halftime.
Princeton’s outside shooting woes have continued on with 11:24 remaining in the opening stanza, as Monmouth has held the Tigers to 1-of-10 shooting from distance. King’s second unit got some good minutes on the last exchange as well. The Hawks lead by two, 15-13. #FlyHawks
Monmouth’s up 11-9 through the first 6:44. Very solid turnout in WLB for this one, which has seen the Hawks close down the 3-point line to the tune of seven Princeton misses in eight attempts thus far. Jakari Spence has four points, Jack Collins three so far. #FlyHawks #CAAHoops
Starters for King Rice and @MonmouthBBall: Jakari Spence, Xander Rice, Jack Collins, Jaret Valencia and Nikita Konstantynovskyi. #FlyHawks #CAAHoops
Made it before the tip. Game #11, and my first one down here since February of 2022, with @MonmouthBBall hosting @PrincetonMBB in a mid-major #NJhoops showdown. #FlyHawks https://t.co/KYdlUWcehI
