NCAA Approves Shorter Transfer Portal Windows for Basketball and Football, Aims to Control Chaos

The NCAA Division I Council has approved changes to the transfer portal windows in all sports, including men's and women's basketball. The transfer window will now be reduced from 60 to 45 days. The window will open for 45 days on the Monday after Selection Sunday. Coaches have been advocating for these restrictions on student movement. The changes also include reducing the transfer window for FBS and FCS football from 60 to 45 days, with a 30-day window beginning on December 4 and an additional 5-day window in January for players on College Football Playoff teams.
