The Kansas men's basketball team has avoided severe penalties following a six-year investigation by the NCAA and the Independent Accountability Resolution Process (IARP). The team will need to vacate their 2018 Final Four appearance due to the ineligible participation of player Silvio de Sousa, and will also be on probation for three years. The ruling has been criticized for its perceived leniency and the lack of a postseason ban, especially considering the self-imposed sanctions and the current Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) world. Despite the controversy, Kansas' head coach, Bill Self, has expressed relief at the conclusion of the case.
Instead of embracing FBI's 'College Basketball Columbo,' NCAA should have faced reality https://t.co/ACpHsBV6sM

In a move that shocks no one, Kansas barely gets a slap on the wrist from the NCAA https://t.co/SIxwgZU9IF
COLUMN: The NCAA had a choice in 2017 after the FBI started arresting basketball coaches. Embrace reality or go full Columbo? It did the latter, and here we are: Kansas runs free and pay-for-play rules the land. https://t.co/vOMSXSGJot via @USATODAY
BREAKING: Lawrence, Kan. -- Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self is said to be in intense pain this evening. The reason: He broke a rib from laughing for hours in the wake of the IARP's ruling. 😉
After Kansas joins other teams recently let off easy for NCAA violations, the IARP will thankfully RIP - https://t.co/Do0GY2YbwU https://t.co/epntclrFvh
The ruling on Kansas today concludes what will forever be known at The Last Great Infractions Case. I explain why for @TheMessenger https://t.co/OFEUqiafVp
Our own @MattNorlander joined CBS Sports HQ to go into depth on Kansas's penalties from its IARP case. "De Sousa was cleared on two separate occasions by the NCAA to be eligible to play. But this case was not ruled by the NCAA and its committee on infractions." https://t.co/2O4fnNZoou

"Myself and my staff have handled it very maturely. ... We dealt with this in a way that we're gonna go through this, this is how it is. In the short term, it won't last forever, but it's not an excuse to impact how we do our job." —Head coach Bill Self on Kansas's penalties… https://t.co/1BnPllojKW https://t.co/urf8ab6aXA
The NCAA SIX YEARS after the FBI arrests delivers this ruling in a completely changed NIL world. No additional punishment for Coach Bill Self / Asst Kurtis Townsend. No postseason ban. Minor restrictions, not much beyond already self-imposed sanctions. https://t.co/PirtVDeNND

For its final act, the now-defunct IARP didn’t do much of anything to punish Kansas. “This wasn’t even a slap on the wrist,” writes @ByPatForde. “It was a pat on the back.” https://t.co/X3BcZyuf1t

“The NCAA should rescind the punishments they handed out and Book, Tony Bland and everyone else that was charged with a crime deserve a pardon. This entire investigation was a joke.” Instant reaction to today’s Kansas ruling. https://t.co/jgBmTph5Gb
Kansas basketball ruling closes book on 6 years of colossal waste by FBI, NCAA @DanaONeilWriter https://t.co/NgSKwZiF09
One consequence for @KUHoops: the 2018 Final Four banner is coming down. Silvio DeSousa played 10 minutes against Villanova.
NCAA's additional penalties for KU: vacating 2017-18 wins when Silvio De Sousa played (Final Four year), Self vacates those wins in the record book, have to take down 2018 banners, return trophies from that year.
NCAA enforcement came after Bill Self and he responded by winning a national title, securing a lifetime contract and then convincing them a previously served four game suspension/vacation was more than enough. Self has won a lot of games, none by a wider margin than that.
INSTANT REACTION: Kansas and Bill Self walk away from the NCAA investigation scot-free! @RobDauster and @GoodmanHoops react 👀 https://t.co/Pr6e0Aviof
NCAA's Independent Accountability Resolution Process handled most of the so-called "FBI Scandal" cases pretty consistently. Virtually no penalties and a general dismissal, if not repudiation, of NCAA rules in general. Kansas is the latest and final case for the IARP. Poor… https://t.co/m4AbNloZ91
As reported, @KUHoops receives three years probation after six-year investigation. Head coach Bill Self and assistant coach Curtis Townsend receive no additional penalties. IARP reduced initial Level I findings to Level II and III throughout. IARP out. FBI case closed.
Bill Self and Kansas will face no additional serious penalties, per the IARP's ruling. Three-year probation and they have to vacate their 2018 Final Four appearance and wins from that season due to Silvio de Sousa's participation. But no postseason ban, further suspension, etc.

In what can’t surprise anyone at this point, Kansas basketball gets minimal penalties from the IARP
News: Kansas emerges virtually unscathed from long investigation by the NCAA and IARP. https://t.co/pp8NgWi26H
JUST IN: Penalties against Kansas in its IARP case. Its 2018 Final Four banner will be coming down and all 2017-18 wins will be vacated because Silvio De Sousa played while ineligible. https://t.co/ml9VaHWj7c
The long-awaited Kansas men’s basketball infractions case ruling is in, and the Jayhawks are walking away unscathed https://t.co/GFz7Ry2o8d
I'm sick of tired of Bill Self and Kansas getting away with it. This judgement is ridiculous. (I don't even know what it's about)
This Kansas ruling is about as funny as it gets. Bill Self is untouchable.
Kansas and Bill Self's penalties delivered, and there's no postseason ban, no added penalties to Self or assistant Kurtis Townsend.
The NCAA to Kansas https://t.co/m0vqmYZKlN
Soooo basically, KU and Bill Self got a, “Yeah, so don’t do that again!” from the NCAA? Lol
The ncaa saw how many non top 100 recruits KU had to start the last few years and decided it was punishment enough
