Dodgers’ Ohtani Hits 30th Homer, Extending 5-Year Streak as LA Beats White Sox

Shohei Ohtani belted his 30th home run of the season, a 408-foot drive to right-center in the fourth inning, becoming the first Japanese player to post five straight 30-homer seasons. The solo blast, delivered off rookie right-hander Shane Smith, put the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead 6–1 and widened Ohtani’s National League lead to four homers over Arizona’s Ezequiel Suárez.

Los Angeles opened the game with a four-run, two-out rally in the first inning and never trailed, defeating the Chicago White Sox 6–1 at Dodger Stadium. Ohtani finished 1-for-4, snapping an 0-for-6 skid, while Andy Pages drove in two runs to push his season RBI total to 57. The win improved the Dodgers to 54-32 and extended their NL West advantage to a season-high eight games.

Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto scattered three hits over seven innings, struck out eight and allowed one run, recording his eighth victory to move into a tie for the league lead. The 26-year-old lowered his ERA to 2.5 and has yielded four hits in his last 12 innings.

Ohtani reached the 30-homer plateau in the club’s 86th game, three weeks earlier than a year ago, after launching Nos. 27, 28 and 29 in the previous week. He joins Seattle’s Cal Raleigh (33) and the Yankees’ Aaron Judge (30) as the only major-leaguers with at least 30 homers before the All-Star break. The two-way star is scheduled to make his next pitching start on July 5, his 31st birthday, against the Houston Astros.
