There is a debate surrounding the potential firing of John Calipari as Kentucky's basketball coach. ESPN analysts defended Calipari, calling the idea 'absurd' and stating that only Calipari and Rick Pitino could coach Kentucky. Concerns about finding a better replacement and the significant record-setting buyout amount are highlighted. Speculation continues about the future of Calipari amid discussions of a succession plan and the need for a substantial financial commitment for a new coach.
And I definitely don't think you fire Calipari unless you know you're nailing the hire. Like, it's all but done. Which means backing up the Brinks truck. https://t.co/IaUxIgSMgY
One problem if Kentucky wants to move on from John Calipari, beyond his buyout, is almost any candidate you'd want, anyone who would be a considered a home run, would require not just a massive salary but also an eight-figure buyout paid to their current place.
Starting to sound like decision day for Kentucky and "Kalipari" LOL https://t.co/VEviAnfWhk
John Calipari buyout would set record. What to know about his Kentucky basketball contract. https://t.co/EM6n78IuAQ
I'm not plugged in at Kentucky. It's hard for me to see Cal going anywhere coming off the finish they just had, and hard to see UK forking over the kind of money it would take to make him go anywhere. At the very least, though, they need to be getting a succession plan in place.
A lot of incorrect figures floating around regarding how much Kentucky would owe John Calipari if it buys out his contract. Just know this: It would set a record for a men's basketball coach. By a significant margin. I cover that and other numbers to know https://t.co/ckW7HExP4S
A quick thought on Calipari situation: I don’t think there is any easy answer. Get rid of him and you are taking a huge risk with no obvious better choice out there. I can’t remember a more successful coach ever being fired in College BB for non-discipline reasons. It’s a huge…

ESPN analysts strongly defended John Calipari against the idea of him being fired by Kentucky. Seth Greenberg and Jay Bilas even called the suggestion "absurd."
