Dallas Stars Rehire Glen Gulutzan as Head Coach, Replacing Pete DeBoer

The Dallas Stars on Tuesday rehired Glen Gulutzan as head coach, returning the 53-year-old to the post he held from 2011 to 2013. General manager Jim Nill dismissed Pete DeBoer on 6 June after the club’s third straight exit in the Western Conference Final and said Gulutzan’s “extensive NHL experience” made him the right choice to push the roster further.

Gulutzan spent the past seven seasons as an assistant with the Edmonton Oilers, helping guide Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances. He previously ran the Calgary Flames bench from 2016-18 and owns a career head-coaching mark of 146-125-23, including a 64-57-9 record in his first stint with Dallas.

The coach inherits a veteran-laden lineup anchored by goaltender Jake Oettinger, defenseman Miro Heiskanen and captain Jamie Benn, all under contract as the club seeks a first Stanley Cup since 1999. Dallas also elevated Neil Graham from its AHL affiliate to serve as an assistant on Gulutzan’s staff.
