Celtics Star Jayson Tatum Has Achilles Surgery, Season Ends as Boston Trails Knicks 3-1

The Boston Celtics said Tuesday that All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. The procedure, performed less than 24 hours after the injury, ends Tatum’s season; the club provided no timetable for his return but said he is expected to make a full recovery.

Tatum, 27, suffered the non-contact injury in the closing minutes of Monday night’s 121-113 Game 4 loss to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. After scoring 42 points in 40 minutes, the star collapsed, was taken from the court in a wheelchair and subsequent imaging confirmed the tendon rupture.

The defending champions now trail the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinals 3-1 and will face the remainder of the series—and potentially much of next season—without their leading scorer and cornerstone player. The setback deepens roster and salary-cap questions for a franchise that had been aiming to extend its title window around Tatum.

Not a Celtics fan but feel bad for Tatum. Played huge minutes and seemed like a good dude (even if they/he tended to get too iso-heavy) and obviously was top top tier player. Sucks he’ll be out.
