Burnley Signs Kyle Walker From Man City in Deal Worth Up to £5m

Premier League newcomers Burnley have signed England right-back Kyle Walker from Manchester City on a two-year deal, the clubs said on Saturday. The transfer is structured as a free move that could rise to about £5 million ($6.3 million) through performance-related bonuses if Walker plays at least 70 percent of matches and the club avoids relegation.

The 35-year-old ends an eight-season stay at City, where he made more than 300 appearances and won 17 trophies, including six league titles and the 2023 Champions League. British media estimate his departure will cut City’s wage bill by roughly £10 million over the final year of his contract.

Walker is Burnley’s fifth addition of the summer as manager Scott Parker—his former Tottenham Hotspur team-mate—strengthens the squad for its return to the top flight after securing promotion with a 100-point Championship campaign. Capped 96 times by England, Walker is expected to provide experience to a defence that conceded a league-low 16 goals last season.
