Alcaraz Overcomes Struff, Extends Wimbledon Streak to 17

Carlos Alcaraz kept his bid for a third consecutive Wimbledon crown alive by defeating Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 25 minutes on Centre Court. The Spaniard dominated the opening set in 27 minutes, wobbled as Struff levelled the match, then regained control with nine winners and just three unforced errors in the third set before sealing the fourth with a late break.

The result stretched the 22-year-old’s winning streak at the All England Club to 17 matches and his overall run on tour to 21. Alcaraz, who has made at least the round of 16 at SW19 in each of the last four editions, will face No. 14 seed Andrey Rublev on Sunday for a place in the quarter-finals.

Alcaraz arrived in London after lifting back-to-back trophies at Roland Garros and Queen’s Club—his fifth title of the season—and had earlier survived a five-set opener against Fabio Fognini before beating British qualifier Oliver Tarvet in straight sets. Struff, ranked 125th, exits Wimbledon after reaching the third round for a fourth time.
