Feijóo Promotes Tellado to PP Secretary General, Names Muñoz Congressional Spokesperson

Madrid, 2 July 2025 – Alberto Núñez Feijóo has overhauled the leadership of Spain’s main opposition party, naming Miguel Tellado as secretary general of the Partido Popular (PP) and elevating deputy Ester Muñoz to spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies. The appointments were confirmed during a broadcast interview and replace Cuca Gamarra, who on Monday asked to step aside after three years as the party’s number two.

Tellado, 51, has served as parliamentary spokesman since October 2023 and is one of Feijóo’s closest allies from their years in Galicia, where he was PP secretary general. Muñoz, 40, a lawyer and former vicesecretary for health and education, has gained prominence for her combative interventions in the chamber.

Feijóo said the reshuffle brings “two young, experienced profiles” to the forefront as the PP intensifies its opposition to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez ahead of a possible election cycle. Gamarra will remain in the executive committee with responsibility for justice, interior and defence. The leadership changes are expected to be ratified at the party’s national congress in Madrid on 4-6 July.
