The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and Liga MX Femenil have announced the launch of a new tournament, the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup, set to take place from July 19 to August 2, with semifinals the following week and the championship game scheduled for the weekend of October 25-27. This groundbreaking event will feature all 14 NWSL clubs and the top six teams from Liga MX Femenil based on their performance in the Clausura and Apertura during 2023. The teams from Liga MX include Tigres, Club América, Chivas, Rayadas, Pachuca, and Tijuana, who will be divided into five groups of four. The tournament aims to set a new standard in women’s soccer, as evidenced by the Kansas City Current hosting the Portland Thorns in the first game at the sold-out CPKC stadium, drawing an 11,500 crowd.

First takeaways on the #NWSL x Liga MX format: - Finally! - Six (?) of these teams have to play this AND the new Concacaf competition back-to-back 🥴 - Feels a bit too much like the old Challenge Cup with the imbalance of teams from each league - 1 group winner eliminated 😬 https://t.co/hJGIDpTdoi
