In a closely contested match, Everton suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Tottenham. Despite a strong performance that saw Everton create numerous chances and press high, they were unable to secure a draw. The team's effort was evident, with bright appearances from substitutes Gomes and Danjuma, and a high number of possessions regained in the final third, matching their season's best at 11 times. Tottenham, on the other hand, managed to hold on for the win, with their goalkeeper playing a crucial role and Everton's finishing not capitalizing on the opportunities. Danjuma came close to scoring an equalizer in the last seconds, which was flagged offside but was suspected to be onside. The win brought Tottenham within three points of the top spot in the league. The first half ended 2-0 in favor of Spurs, with Everton's early switch off costing them, despite their high pressing and Tottenham's clinical goals against a lackadaisical defense.
Everton denied a point away at Tottenham by the finest of margins 😬 Read more 👇 https://t.co/3qqCySv8d8
Spurs were hanging on there - Everton created numerous chances and can count themselves unlucky. Spurs still struggling to see out games. But, against an in-form team, they won. And at the mo they're three points off top spot again Some thoughts ✍️⬇️ https://t.co/aNJrs10nfz
FT 2-1. Huge relief at the end of that one. Spurs indebted to their goalkeeper + some bad Everton finishing. Danjuma was also millimetres away from a last-second equaliser that was flagged for offside but I'm pretty sure he was on so would have stood if it had crossed the line.
FT Tottenham 2-1 Everton. Dyche's side merited at least a draw but made to pay for switching off early doors Can't fault the effort - gave it everything and had the chances Bright cameos from Gomes & Danjuma off the bench
Everton regained possession in the final third 11 times against Spurs today — their joint-highest this season. Spurs get the win, but their build-up will always give the opposition that opportunity to press high 👇 https://t.co/8x3Ut62mWj https://t.co/AJkQhIZMhq
HT 2-0. Spurs took their goals well but Everton have been in this game and have created plenty of chances themselves. Quite slack from Tottenham towards the end of the half and they'll be relieved not to have given one away. Just need to keep their focus and they'll be fine.
It's 2-0 at half-time but it's not a 2-0 game. Everton's approach has made this a really open contest - that played into Spurs' hands initially but in the last 20 mins the visitors should have scored at least two themselves. Spurs been too lackadaisical at the back. Good game.
HT 2-0. Harsh on Everton, who have had their chances, but Spurs super clinical. Surprised how open it's been - lots of high pressing from Dyche's side
Gomes' cross-shot deflected wide by Mykolenko. Not sure he knew anything about that. It's been all Everton since the goal(s) but Spurs still carrying massive threat
Great chance for Mykolenko at back post but there's another ball on the pitch which hampers his effort. Dyche really not happy and can see why. Then Garner's shot saved from next move Everton are having a good go here, pressing high and forcing mistakes
Everton are more open than I'd expected. Spurs able to play through with relative ease
Nearly 2-0 but Johnson fires over. This time, Spurs in down Everton right. Finding space in both full-back areas
Garner for Everton... SCORES. 6-5.
