British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reached an agreement to purchase a 25% stake in Manchester United, with the deal valued at £1.25 billion. The acquisition, which will be announced today, marks the culmination of 13 months of review initiated by the Glazer family. Ratcliffe's INEOS Sport will assume control of the football side of the club, including the men's, women's, and academy operations. The deal is subject to Premier League approval and the completion of the owners’ & directors’ test, which could take up to 6-8 weeks. Ratcliffe's purchase includes an even split of Class B and Class A shares at $33 each, significantly above the current market price of $19.84, for an overall cost of $1.3 billion. Additionally, Ratcliffe has committed to a $300 million investment to improve Old Trafford. INEOS will be responsible for football operations and has been delegated the management responsibility for these operations. The Glazers have welcomed the deal, stating that INEOS brings significant financial commitment and commercial experience to the club. Ratcliffe will delegate seats on the Man United PLC board to INEOS shareholder John Reece and INEOS Sport chair Rob Nevin, while INEOS executives Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc will join the Manchester United football board of directors.
