Bayern Munich has intensified its bid for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, tabling a net salary of about €12 million a year and indicating it is willing to activate the player’s €58-60 million release clause, according to reports from Sky Germany and other outlets. The move comes after the German club missed out on Florian Wirtz and is seeking to reinforce its flanks ahead of the new season.

FC Barcelona, which has held advanced talks with the 22-year-old Spain international and agreed the outline of a six-year contract, still plans to match the clause in the coming days. La Liga president Javier Tebas reiterated this week that Barcelona "cannot register Nico Williams today," underscoring the club’s need to offload salaries or raise fresh income before any signing can be inscribed. Athletic Bilbao has already questioned Barcelona’s compliance with the league’s 1:1 spending rule and is monitoring the situation closely.

Williams wants his future resolved before pre-season begins on 13 July and is seeking guarantees he will be eligible to play if he chooses Barcelona. Blaugrana forward Dani Olmo, who faced his own registration delays last year, publicly urged the winger to remain patient, saying "everything gets sorted in the end." The player must now decide between Bayern’s lucrative package and Barcelona’s long-planned project in the coming days.
