On May 14, the Seattle City Council voted 8-1 to ratify a new contract with the Seattle Police Officers Guild, making Seattle police the highest paid in the state. The contract includes large raises and significant backpay for officers who have been without a wage increase since 2021. Despite the approval, some council members, including Tammy Morales who voted against it, expressed concerns about accountability and whether a federal judge will be satisfied with the terms. Council member Rob Saka called it a 'good first step.' Seattle Mayor has signed the new contract. SPOG president Mike Solan was present at the vote.

That is a question that should be answered before the contract is ratified. The next time SPD kills someone, next time SPD quashes a protest with their patented excessive force, this council and the mayor will wear it around their necks. I will do my best to make sure of it. https://t.co/VUMmDlR05n
