SpaceX to Launch Crew-10 to ISS on March 12, Aiding Return of Astronauts Wilmore and Williams Stranded by Boeing Starliner

SpaceX is set to launch the Crew-10 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday, March 12, at 7:48 p.m. ET from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission will carry NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov aboard the Dragon spacecraft named Endurance. The launch of Crew-10 is significant as it will facilitate the return of NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been stranded on the ISS since June 2024 due to issues with the Boeing Starliner spacecraft. The Starliner, which was meant to bring them back after an eight-day mission, returned to Earth without its crew in September. Crew-10's arrival will allow for a handover period with the current Crew-9 members, including Wilmore and Williams, before they return to Earth. The Crew-10 astronauts are expected to stay on the ISS for about 6 months and return in Fall 2025. The weather at the launch site is reported to be more than 95% favorable for the launch. In addition to the Crew-10 mission, SpaceX had planned to launch the SPHEREx and PUNCH missions from Vandenberg Space Force Base, but these were postponed due to unfavorable weather and a spacecraft issue. The next attempt for these missions is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11. The SPHEREx mission aims to create a 3D map of the universe in infrared wavelengths, while PUNCH will study the solar wind.
