SpaceX successfully launched the USSF-62 mission for the U.S. Space Force from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County at 7:25 a.m., deploying an advanced weather satellite into a 819 x 828 km x 98.7 deg sun-synchronous orbit. The launch, which took place on Thursday morning at 10:25am EDT (1425 UTC), was part of SpaceX's 12th National Security Space Launch using a Falcon 9 rocket. The 1200 kg satellite, built by Ball Aerospace and designed to fill gaps in space-based environmental monitoring, features a passive microwave radiometer and other sensors for collecting data on ocean winds, tropical cyclone intensity, and charged particles. This mission also marked the third flight for the Falcon 9's first stage, which successfully landed back at Vandenberg on Landing Zone 4. Additionally, SpaceX achieved a milestone by launching and landing the same Falcon 9 booster, serial number B1062, for the 20th time, setting a new record in spaceflight. The booster landed on the A Shortfall of Gravitas droneship approximately 615 km from the launch site.
