Scientists have discovered that starfish can be more accurately described as one big, five-pointed head, according to a new analysis of their genes. The unusual shape of starfish and their regrowable 'arms' have long puzzled scientists. The research sheds light on the evolution of the echinoderm body plan and suggests that starfish are essentially disembodied heads walking on the sea floor. In other marine news, there has been a boom in unusual jellyfish spotted in UK waters. The Caribbean box jellyfish, which lacks a brain, has also been found to be able to alter its behavior based on past experiences.
