Recent studies and international consensus have led to the development of new criteria for pediatric sepsis and septic shock, known as the Phoenix Criteria, published in JAMA Current and presented at #SCCM2024. The criteria were established through an international survey, systematic review, and analysis of over 3 million pediatric health care encounters. These new data-driven criteria, which focus on measures of organ dysfunction, have shown improved performance compared to previous pediatric sepsis criteria. In a separate study published in The Lancet, a computerized decision support system has been shown to reduce high-risk drug combinations in ICU patients.
