Scientists have discovered the deepest known evidence of coral reef bleaching, according to a study by researchers from Plymouth University and published in Nature Communications. The study also found that artificial coral reefs are showing early signs that they can mimic real reefs killed by climate change. Scientists have been warning about the precarious future of the world's corals and their role as canaries in the coal mine of climate change. The entire Caribbean is currently experiencing bleaching, indicating a planetary catastrophe at 1.4-1.6°C of global warming.
Planetary Catastrophe at 1.4- 1.6°C of global warming: “The entire Caribbean right now is bleaching. If you picked a random spot on the map in the Caribbean and jumped in the water, you’re going to see bleached corals.” 🧵 https://t.co/bqFGLjkHhF
