California has introduced a new alert system, replacing Amber Alert with Ebony Alert for missing Black children and Feather Alert for missing Native Americans. The change aims to address the disproportionate representation of Black girls and young Black women on lists of missing people, who are often falsely categorized as runaways. The Ebony Alert bill was authored by a Black Senator and passed unanimously in both houses of the California legislature. Amidst this backdrop, an Ebony Alert was issued for Mizan Dadres-Oman, a 16-year-old girl last seen on February 14th in San Francisco at the Chinatown Him Mark Lai Library on Powell Street. She was considered at risk due to her central auditory processing disorder. After an extensive search, San Francisco Police Department announced that Mizan had been found safe near the Chase Center.

New California law creates Ebony Alert to find missing Black youth and women Sorry whites
I have to agree this seems weird (to say the least) - "Ebony" Alert for missing Black person and🪶 Alert for missing Native Americans... But there are reasonable arguments behind the new laws. See my reply here for relevant links: https://t.co/W0vhDIKPXL https://t.co/Vry3GNMg8O

Serious question: Are any people of color actually okay with calling it an “ebony alert” for missing black people and a “feather alert” for native people? I am programmed to hate this kind of shit but is ANYONE okay with this? Does anyone think this is NOT offensive/racist? https://t.co/QoMYYXSyj5
Step aside "Amber Alert". California now has "Ebony Alerts" for missing Black children and "Feather Alerts" for missing Native Americans 🙉 https://t.co/rSlWXYMSzO https://t.co/H4ag7ANzbE
I legit thought this was a joke. There are separate "Amber Alerts" by race now, in at least CA. Natives get a "Feather Alert," and both groups seem to have been largely or wholly removed from the regular AA system. We've (gone) a long way (back), baby! https://t.co/dhXeSdzbBL
California has Replaced Amber Alert with a new Ebony Alert. Don’t like this name. Sounds racist. https://t.co/lRZ15RBY4Y
